FAQ

What is Itemize? How Does It Work?

Itemize uses patented technology to gather and organize your online and offline receipts in one central digital place. With Itemize, you can easily track and manage all your purchases in one convenient digital location. In addition to delivering great organizational features, the service presents useful recommendations based on your shopping history. Itemize is free and easy to use. It’s currently available for online shopping receipts, and soon it will also include a smartphone app for in-store receipts.

Who should use Itemize?

Itemize is ideal for consumers and small businesses. It’s a simple idea with big benefits. Shop online or offline and never lose another receipt. See and track every item you buy. No more guessing “what was that for?” Easily tag and categorize the receipts – and even the individual items. Run reports based on your shopping. Put your receipts to work with Itemize.

How secured is Itemize?

Itemize uses the same encryption security technology as financial institutions. All information is completely secure and confidential. Itemize only processes shopping receipts, so credit card and banking information is neither included nor accessed at any time. Your purchase information is confidential. You can remove or delete any purchase or receipt at any time.

How does the Itemize email work?

Itemize organizes your receipts while also helping keep spam out of your personal email box. Itemize provides each user with a personal email address for online shopping. You can use the Itemize inbox for your online shopping. Itemize filters out the spam, and then organizes the receipts, shipping notifications, and other messages. That keeps clutter out of your personal email box. Or if you prefer, you can set up the Itemize receipt wizard to automatically import receipts from your personal email account into Itemize. Supported providers include Yahoo, Windows Live Hotmail, Gmail, AOL mail, Mobile Me, Verizon, Comcast, Time Warner/Roadrunner, and Optimum Online.

We currently do not support private level email domains. For example, if your domain is johndoe@johndoeswebsite.com, we are not able to provide auto-importing. We hope to offer this feature very soon.

Which merchants do you support?

Itemize currently supports over 500 receipt formats, more than any other service, and is constantly adding new stores. Every large online retailer is supported, including Amazon, Staples, and Macys. For any purchase from a supported retailer, Itemize displays the specific items you bought, their prices, images, and other useful information. It’s really cool. And of course Itemize also display your original receipts so you can use them anytime.

I have a Gmail account but I can't get auto-importing to work. What's happening?

Itemize auto-importing currently only works if your Gmail account has IMAP enabled. If you're not sure if you have enabled it or want to know how, please see Google's Help section on IMAP here: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/an...

I'm typing in my email address and password for auto-importing but I'm getting an error message. What gives?

Itemize supports a wide variety of email accounts but we haven't mapped everything just yet. We are always adding new ones so please bear with us. Please check to see if the account you are using is supported above. If your account is listed as supported but you are still having problems adding it, please visit our contact us section. If it's a Gmail account you're having trouble with, make sure you have turned on your IMAP settings.
